Hudson Taylor's Success

Hudson Taylor's Success

In 18 century lived an eighteen years old boy named Hudson Taylor. He liked to help people even he did not have lots of money. One day, he helped a poor, Irish Catholic man with a dying wife. Actually the man just wanted Taylor to pray for his wife, but Taylor also felt driven to give this poor family his only remaining silver coin. He was also impelled to help Dr. Parker, a new missionary when Taylor was in China. He rented three rooms for Dr. Parker's family. In his old age, Taylor also helped Meadow, a young missionary who wanted to go to China by taking up the burdens of praying in funds for him.
Taylor undoubtedly helped others, because he believed that God would provide all of his needs if he prayed to Him. After he gave all of his money to the poor Irish man, he did not have any food to eat. He prayed to God and believed that God would provide for him. In an amazing way, God provided Taylor's need. How surprised was Taylor when he got a gold coin in a mail, substituting his silver coin! Moreover, when Taylor let his luggage stolen by a beggar, God replaced it.  Because he needed money to survive, Taylor prayed to God to supply his need. God answered his prayer and God touched someone's heart to send a package with a check for £40. In Taylor's old age, he still experienced that God answered prayer. When he needed £2,000 to send twenty-four missionaries, every day he prayed to God to provide his needs. By His miraculous way, God provided Taylor's need and less than six months, all of the missionaries were sent.
During his life time, Taylor had many experiences that made him grow spiritually. At sixteen years old, he accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and after that based his life and his praying on the Word of God. One day when he became a “dead” man, he remembered John 13:14, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”. After Taylor prayed to God, He healed him from his horrifying illness. Later, he learned to move men through God by prayer. He won a man to God. Not long after that, he went to China and became a missionary there. He struggled to leave his mother and his comfort zone.
During his voyage, Taylor learned many things. He learned to depend on God in every situation. When the ship was in an emergency condition and was needing the breeze, he prayed to God for breeze and God gave it to him. In China, he lived in the middle of a war. At first Taylor was afraid, but for many times he read some comforting Bible passages and knelt to pray. As he did so, he found the peace. One night, he was awakened by a crackling and roaring sounds, and by a strange light reflected in his room. “It was fire!” In fright, he prayed silently and urgently that his Heavenly Father would protect him. By five o'clock in the morning, the danger was past and Taylor crept back into bed to sleep. In another occasion, he met a Buddhist holy man and he was inspired to act like Chinese to ease him to tell the Gospel. “Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nest; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” This words had new meaning when Taylor was wandering in China. When he lost his luggage, he learned that the people of China is more valuable than his cherished earthly possessions. He also learned to forgive the servant who stole his luggage. God also formed Taylor when he sought for a wife. Taylor learned that God has a beautiful way to fulfill his desire, and that he must be patient to wait for His time. At his old age, Taylor practiced all lessons he had learned. When he started a missionary society, he prayed for the laborers and the money. After he prayed every day, God provided for him the money and he could send the twenty-four missionaries for the eleven Chinese provinces and for Tibet. He continued to pray and after thirty years, the last province was opened for missionary.  “There is nothing small and nothing great; only God is great.”
